Add a little Hollywood Glam into your wardrobe and create a vintage look. Gorgeous silk and lace pieces by Vancouver's Patricia Fieldwalker are not just for behind the scenes. Showing a little more silk and lace than a peek-a-boo section above your bra is more than acceptable and a great way to create new looks from a simple basic wardrobe. Use a tie belt or sash to create the 'blouson' effect on mid length chemise style pieces or wear a shorter cami un-tucked showing off the lower lace trim. Longer silk and lace slips can be worn under dresses and skirts allowing the lace hemline to extend past that of the dress or skirt. These fashion tips can create a feminine silhouette that adds texture and subtle details to simple basics.

This year's fashion looks focus on mixed media textures pairing silky satins with leathers and suede. Mixing thicker textiles like faux fur and quilted fabrics with chiffons and fine thread fabrics that have hints of metallics, can create the holiday look. Keep your eye out for metallic printed leathers, satin sashes, and mixed textile scarves to arrive at the Velvet Room in the next few weeks.

Coral Moon Pearls

Mixed media accessories are this year's top fashion trend. The old saying just 'Just add your Mom's pearls' and the outfit is complete holds true for today. You simply can't go wrong with pearls. Create the look by adding a single strand of pearls with other necklaces to create layers.
Coral Moon Designs has captured this look with its newest pearl collection. Fresh water and Swarovski pearls are mixed with raw cut, chunky semi precious stones and crackle quartz in a two or three strand combination of pearls with less traditional semi precious stones. The updated look is both traditional and trendy, what we call "Classics with a Twist!"

The Bus Stops Here!

Scavenger at heart, Catherine Sutherland combs the city bus stops to find shattered glass left from destruction, vandalism and traffic mishaps. While we may never think about it, this Vancouver jewelry designer is searching for the beautiful icy blue glass for her next creation. Catherine creates chunky iceberg-like pieces for her Bus Stop jewellery line by carefully selecting shattered cubes of glass to set in reclaimed sterling silver.

Catherine cares about the Earth and tries to source her materials from outside the typical industries. She has a passion for metal bending, recycled materials and using semi precious materials for all that she creates.

With modest prices and an understated shine, Catherine’s pieces suit the woman who doesn't care for the perfection glam of diamonds. Vancouver 'Bus Stop' earrings are a cool $60 while a stackable ring will cost $150. We love the cute 'Bus Stop' charm bracelet as a perfect gift for a relative or home sick local.

Fashionezine Supports the Velvet Room Boutique

The Collective.
The Velvet Room Boutique

This year's Vancouver Fashion E-zine is a tribute to fashion that is truly home grown. The print edition of the monthly online e-zine is living room 'table-top quality'. It is a collection of the past year's monthly editions and includes features from local boutiques, well known creators of Vancouver's most artistic talents, as well as industry specialists and the upcoming talented newbie stars.

In support of their collective, we joined in with a full page feature in support of our designers that work in tandem with us at the Velvet Room. We work with over 70 designers to create one of Vancouver's most interesting collections of wearable high fashion garments and accessories. We hand pick all items based upon design and lifestyle properties, which include wearability, fit and style, uniqueness and sustainability. Many of our designers create one-of-a-kind creations specifically with our clientele in mind and work with us tweaking their lines to suit the Vancouver fashion vibe. At the time of our third year anniversary, we'd like to thank all of the talented designers who have come along with us on the journey. We have enjoyed working with you all and look forward to another year of artistic pleasure.

2010 edition of the Vancouver Fashione E-zine is available at the Velvet Room Boutique for $10. These magazines make great stocking stuffers for all those who enjoy the Vancouver Fashion Scene!
